A group of Republican senators will host a briefing Wednesday to tout the success of President Trump’s surge of federal law enforcement officers and National Guard troops into the District of Columbia.
Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said the briefing will also feature some words from Washington Examiner reporter Anna Giaritelli, who was attacked and sexually assaulted by a homeless man in 2020 but said Metropolitan Police data never recorded the crime.
Mr. Trump’s crime emergency has netted close to 1,700 arrests and more than 160 gun seizures since it began Aug. 11.
Other senators joining Mr. Cornyn include Kansas’ Roger Marshall, Tennessee’s Marsha Blackburn, Alabama’s Tommy Tuberville and Utah’s Mike Lee.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m.
