Sen. Bob Menendez has reportedly decided to resign from the Senate.
The New Jersey Democrat is facing growing calls from both state and party colleagues to resign or face expulsion from the Senate — calls he has resisted since his indictment on federal bribery and corruption charges.
But now that he’s been convicted, Menendez is telling allies that he will shortly leave the chamber, NBC News reported Wednesday.
The network cited “two people directly familiar with those conversations.”
No senator has been expelled since 1912, though several have resigned rather the face the humiliation of an expulsion vote.
