NextImg:Rep. Richard Hudson reintroduces concealed carry reciprocity legislation

Rep. Richard Hudson reintroduced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would allow people with state-issued concealed carry licenses or permits to transport a handgun to any other state that allows concealed carry.

“Our 2A right does NOT disappear when crossing invisible state lines & my bipartisan bill guarantees that. Looking forward to working with President Trump to get HR 38 signed into law,” Mr. Hudson, North Carolina Republican, said in a statement.

The bill has the support of Second Amendment advocates, including the National Rifle Association (NRA-ILA), Gun Owners of America (GOA), the U.S. Concealed Carry Association and the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

“The U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed an individual’s fundamental right to keep and bear arms,” said John Commerford, executive director of NRA-ILA. “Congress should now ensure that the right to self-defense does not end at a state line. NRA applauds and thanks Rep. Hudson for his longstanding and unwavering leadership in the fight for right-to-carry reciprocity.”

Aidan Johnston, GOA director of Federal Affairs, said it is simply “common sense” for Congress to ensure that each state’s concealed carry license is valid in every other state because all 50 states are now issuing concealed carry permits, 49 states allow non-resident carry and 29 states issue permitless Constitutional Carry.

“Congress has the opportunity to deliver the greatest legislative victory for the gun rights movement in a century, and President Trump has already voiced his support,” he said.

Mr. Hudson’s bill, which he has introduced several times during his tenure in Congress, is supported by more than 120 House Republicans and has also received support from one House Democratic member, Rep. Jared Golden of Maine.

Although the legislation previously passed the House in 2017 with six Democrats supporting it and 14 Republicans in opposition, it came to a halt when it reached the GOP-controlled Senate in December 2017.
