Rep. Max Miller announced an amendment Monday to an appropriations bill that would ban funds to purchase any foreign flags and display them in Congress.

“The halls of Congress belong to America,” Mr. Miller, Ohio Republican, wrote on X. “They should be reserved for flags that embody our great nation.”

The amendment was sparked by a photo surfacing on X showing Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Michigan Democrat, displaying a Palestinian flag outside her House office. Reports say the flag has been there since at least January.

“The Palestinian flag should not have a place here,” Mr. Miller wrote. “That’s why I sponsored an appropriations amendment to end this silliness.”

Ms. Tlaib is of Palestinian descent and has been vocal about her support for those Arabs.

This response comes after Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that rules Gaza, launched a terrorist assault on Israel Saturday morning. The group used a multipronged attack, shooting rockets and taking Israeli soldiers and civilians captive, which led Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare war on Hamas.

Over a thousand people have died in Israel and the Gaza Strip, including more than 10 Americans. Hamas is believed to have over 100 hostages and most recently released a statement saying it would broadcast the killing of one civilian each time Israel attacks Gaza unwarned.

In a statement posted on Instagram about the attack, Ms. Tlaib said she “grieve[s] the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost yesterday, today and every day,” but called for Israel’s “ending the occupation and dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance.”

In July she denounced a House resolution that supported Israel.

Ms. Tlaib and other members of Congress’ Squad of far-left Democrats have been called out for their stances.

“To the Squad, shut the hell up,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, said Monday on Fox News. “You’re emboldening the enemy. You’re a disgrace to the United States Congress. You’re siding with terrorists over a democracy called Israel. You have lost your perspective here. I’m confident most Democrats do not agree with the Squad.”

The Washington Times has reached out to Ms. Tlaib’s office.
