A set of human remains found in Ellsworth, Maine, last week were confirmed Tuesday to belong to a man who had been missing since Feb. 9, 2022.
Anson Snowdeal, 43, of Sullivan, Maine, was last seen leaving a family member’s apartment on foot. Commercial land surveyors uncovered his remains in the woods off a road in Ellsworth on Nov. 14.
Authorities said that Snowdeal disappeared of his own accord. Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss told Spectrum News that the investigation showed that Snowdeal “disappeared voluntarily and appeared to be avoiding efforts to be located.”
The cause and manner of death are pending, but the police do not believe, based on the autopsy and investigation into his disappearance, that Snowdeal’s death was the result of foul play.
At the time of his disappearance, Snowdeal was under criminal investigation by the Ellsworth Police Department for a business deal he made in 2021. A warrant was issued shortly after he went missing.
“I approved the arrest warrant affidavit and complaint on [Feb. 14, 2022], and I assume the court granted the warrant on or soon after that date. It is an EPD investigation and the allegations are theft, Class B (more than $10,000) and home repair fraud, Class D,” former Hancock County District Attorney Matt Foster told the Ellsworth American in April 2022.
