Russian President Vladimir Putin will join President Trump for a press conference after their historic summit in Alaska, the White House and Kremlin have confirmed.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the dual press conference in an interview with Fox News. She said the press conference will take place after a bilateral lunch that includes delegates from both countries.
Ms. Leavitt said the “plan” is for a joint press conference with the two leaders, each taking questions from Russian and American reporters.
Separately, the Kremlin told state-controlled news agency, Interfax, that a joint press conference is expected after the summit, but did not elaborate.
The summit will be held at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Both sides are planning to discuss Russia’s demands to end the war in Ukraine.
Ahead of the summit, Mr. Trump said he thinks Mr. Putin is going to make a deal, adding that there was a “25% chance” the talks would fail.
If the meeting goes well, Mr. Trump raised the possibility of a second meeting that would include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Mr. Trump described Friday’s meeting as “setting the table” for trilateral talks with Mr. Putin and Mr. Zelenskyy.
