WILMINGTON, Del. — After four days of testimony from eight witnesses, federal prosecutors have rested their case against Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden.

The case was capped by testimony Friday morning from a Drug Enforcement Administration agent, who testified about coded language in text messages from Hunter Biden that he said referenced drugs.

Prosecutors say Hunter Biden lied when he swore he wasn’t a drug user on a federal firearms form when he purchased a Colt revolver in October 2018. He had the gun for about 11 days before his ex-girlfriend and sister-in-law Hallie Biden threw it away in a trash can.

Now the case is being turned over to Hunter Biden’s attorneys for a chance to call witnesses. Defense attorney Abbe Lowell said their witnesses could stretch into Monday and they hadn’t decided whether or not Hunter Biden would testify.

Prosecutors’ strongest witness was Hallie Biden, who had a romantic relationship with Hunter Biden after the death of her husband, Beau, who was also Hunter Biden’s brother.

She testified that she saw evidence he was using crack cocaine days after he bought a gun in October 2018.

She also shook up the trial when she described her descent into crack addiction, telling the court how Hunter Biden introduced her to the drug earlier in 2018. Hallie Biden said she is now clean but is “embarrassed and ashamed” of that time in her life.

She testified that Hunter Biden exchanged text messages with her days after purchasing the revolver on Oct. 12, 2018, in which he claimed he was smoking crack and buying from a dealer named “Mookie.”
