Ahead of Super Bowl 59 on Sunday, the average price of a ticket to the game has dropped significantly compared to last year.
On ticket resale marketplace TickPick, the average price of a ticket to Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans is $7,433.39, more than $1,700 cheaper than the $9,163 average price on the platform for last year’s game.
On the Gametime ticket resale platform, the lowest-priced seats on Monday night were around $4,527, having dropped from $5,860 on Friday according to NPR. If the Monday price holds, it would be about $4,200 cheaper than the cheapest seats to Super Bowl 58.
TickPick suggested that the change in venue, from Las Vegas last year to New Orleans this year, helped bring down the price of attending the game. Other ticket vendors agreed.
“Vegas is such an approachable city across the country, regardless of what your fan base is,” StubHub spokesperson Adam Budelli told USA Today.
Conversely, hotel prices are up this year in New Orleans, with two-star hotels costing nearly $1,000 nightly and higher-end rooms costing thousands per night according to Front Office Sports.
“I personally know more than a hundred people who would like to go to the game, have the means to do so, but only want to if they can get a decent hotel room, and right now, they can’t. When you see upwards of $2,000 a night for a hotel room that normally goes for $198, that’s insanity,” Tony Knopp, CEO of event management company TicketManager, told Front Office Sports.
The venue this year, the Caesars Superdome, also has more supply with around 74,000 seats compared to Allegiant Stadium which has about 65,000, according to CNN.
Familiar faces on the field fuel fan fatigue as well.
Super Bowl 59 is a rematch of Super Bowl 57, where the AFC’s Kansas City Chiefs bested the NFC’s Philadelphia Eagles. Last year saw the Chiefs win again against the San Francisco 49ers, who they also beat in Super Bowl 54.
“Had the Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders or Buffalo Bills made it this far, it’d be a much different story as it relates to current prices,” TickPick CEO Brett Goldberg told CNN.
The Chiefs are attempting to become the first NFL team to win the Super Bowl three straight times. They have made the Super Bowl five of the last six seasons, excluding Super Bowl 56 following the 2021 season.
