NextImg:Powerball lottery jackpot up to $687 million; Mega Millions climbs to $875 million

After nobody won the Powerball jackpot in Monday night’s drawing, the total grand prize for the next drawing of the lottery on Wednesday is up to $687 million.

The numbers Monday night were white balls 10, 17, 20, 39 and 44, and a red ball 16. To win the jackpot, a player must match all six balls. White balls come with numbers from 1-69, while red balls come with numbers from 1-26.

If a player hits it big and wins it all Wednesday, they will choose between a lump sum option of $327.3 million or an annuitized option with a smaller amount of cash up front followed by 29 annual payments, each 5% larger than the last, per the Powerball website.

The Powerball jackpot was last won with a ticket purchased in Michigan and drawn on New Year’s Day. It was the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history.

Since then, there have been 33 drawings without a winner. If it stays at $687 million ahead of Wednesday night’s draw and is won, the current jackpot would be the 12th biggest win in Powerball history.

The Powerball is hitting bigger figures alongside the Mega Millions lottery, which has a jackpot of $875 million ahead of a drawing Tuesday night. If it is won, it will be the sixth-largest prize in Mega Millions history behind five previous jackpots of $1 billion or more.

The Powerball and Mega Millions are available in 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands at $2 a ticket. In addition, Powerball is also available in Puerto Rico.

Neither lottery game is offered in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada or Utah.
