Americans were out of luck in Monday’s Powerball drawing, meaning the lottery’s jackpot is now up to $1.3 billion for the next drawing on Wednesday night.
The winning numbers for the $1.1 billion jackpot on Monday were white balls 8, 23, 25, 40, 53 and red ball 5.
If a player wins it all Wednesday, he or she will be able to choose between an immediate lump sum of $589 million or an annuitized series of payments, starting with a smaller immediate payment, then 29 annual payouts, each 5% larger than the last.
The $1.3 billion jackpot at stake Wednesday is the fifth-largest in Powerball history and the ninth-largest among all U.S. lottery jackpot games, Powerball said Tuesday.
The drawing Wednesday will be the 41st held since May 31, when a player hit a $204.5 million jackpot on a ticket bought in California. The longest streak between jackpot wins is 42 straight drawings, set on April 6, 2024, when a player hit a $1.326 billion jackpot on a ticket bought in Oregon, Powerball said.
The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are one in 292.2 million. Each ticket costs $2 per play and can be bought in 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Powerball is unavailable for purchase in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.
