NextImg:Powerball jackpot hits $1 billion

The Powerball jackpot is up to $1 billion for the sixth time in the lottery’s 33-year history ahead of Saturday night’s drawing.

The jackpot reached $950 million after Wednesday’s drawing, where the winning numbers were white balls 9, 12, 22, 41, 61 and red ball 25. Powerball said in a release Friday that new sales boosted the jackpot for Saturday to $1 billion. If a player wins, the current jackpot will be the sixth-largest in Powerball history.

A winning player will choose between two options before taxes: an immediate lump sum of $453.1 million or an annuitized option that will give a player a smaller immediate payout, then 29 annual payouts, each increasing 5% a year until the full $1 billion is paid out.

The drawing Saturday will be the 39th since a ticket bought in California hit a $204.5 million jackpot on May 31, the fourth Powerball jackpot won in 2025. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are one in 292.2 million.

Each Powerball ticket costs $2 and can be found in 45 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. Powerball tickets are not sold in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada or Utah.
