An unidentified object believed to be a meteorite smashed into a family’s home in New Jersey this week.

The landing came Monday in the state’s western town of Hopewell, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

While no one was hurt by the object, pictures provided by authorities show how the 4-inch-by-6-inch rock penetrated the roof and dented the home’s hardwood floor.

Police said the rock may be related to the Eta Aquariids meteor shower, which peaked last week. Observers of the shower can see up to 50 meteors per hour in the sky.

Police are in contact with other agencies to identify the object.
