President Trump is getting solid marks from voters as he prepares to become the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl.
In a CBS News poll released Sunday, 53% of Americans approved of Mr. Trump’s first few weeks in office, and 47% disapproved.
Mr. Trump, an avid football fan, is slated to appear at the Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles. He has not picked sides.
The Trump administration has been moving at a breakneck speed, with the president signing dozens of executive orders. The Elon Musk-led effort to dismantle the federal bureaucracy has been full speed ahead, as has Mr. Trump’s push to deport illegal immigrants.
The CBS poll showed the majority of voters described him as “tough,” energetic,” “focused” and “effective.”
By a 59% to 41% margin, voters approved of his deportation program. By a 64% to 36% margin, voters approved sending American troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.
However, Mr. Trump has some work to do in other areas
His plan to take over the Gaza Strip is a dud. Almost half of the voters said it is a “bad idea,” and 13% said it is a “good idea.” The remaining respondents were not sure.
Two-thirds of voters said his focus on lowering prices is “not enough.”
