President Trump has been heavily involved with his favorite sport, golf, since returning to the White House last month, and last week he had an Oval Office meeting with Adam Scott about a possible PGA-LIV deal, with the pro golfer calling the visit “a positive thing.”

The 40-minute meeting featured Scott and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan as they discussed the future of the sport with the president in light of the PGA-LIV rivalry.

“It’s just a positive thing that the president of the United States is such a lover of the game of golf and understands some of the challenges facing the professional game at the moment,” Scott told the Golf Channel on Tuesday.

LIV and PGA representatives agreed to a framework agreement in 2023, but the two companies have not announced a merger to unite the tours in the past 18 months. According to multiple reports, the Justice Department is investigating the deal for potential antitrust violations.

“Given how things are sitting with the Department of Justice among the professional game, this is all crazy stuff; he’s a lover of the game and hopefully will be very helpful for the professional game and help everybody move forward,” Scott said of the president.

Scott and the PGA Tour have not announced any timeline for the potential merger. But the 44-year-old Australian said golfers are optimistic with Trump in their corner.

“Given [how] this has been tied up, he can be very helpful. The difficult thing for maybe the administration to understand [is] why professional golf coming back together, working more harmoniously, is not a breach of antitrust or anti-competitive issues,” Scott said. “Hopefully this can be helped by the president, and things can move forward at a faster pace.”
