Montgomery County police on Thursday said a person with a fake gun prompted a brief lockdown over active-shooter fears at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Authorities said there is no threat to the community after officers took the suspect into custody shortly before 10:30 a.m. on the 8900 block of Rockville Pike in Bethesda, Maryland.
Police didn’t immediately share the suspect’s identity or how the phony gun was handled on the Bethesda campus.
Naval Support Bethesda officials said the seemingly armed person was near Building 10, causing the facility to go on lockdown and close its gates to nonemergency traffic.
Montgomery County police said the scene was secure by 11 a.m.
