A person was hospitalized with serious injuries after attempting to light a firepit on a high-rise balcony in the District of Columbia over the weekend.

The D.C. Fire and EMS Department responded at 7:44 p.m. Sunday to the incident at the building in the 1900 block of 14th Street NW.

The building wasn’t damaged, the department wrote in a post on X. Fire officials didn’t specify the nature of the person’s injuries.

Firepits are illegal to use within 25 feet of a structure, and charcoal burners and other open-flame cooking devices aren’t allowed on balconies, fire officials said.
