Protesters with the People’s March, rebranded from the Women’s March, are set to gather at multiple locations across the District Saturday to demonstrate against the incoming Trump administration.
Protesters will meet up at one of three locations starting at 10 a.m. based on their causes of interest, People’s March organizers said.
About 500,000 people came to the nation’s capital for the Women’s March before President-elect Donald Trump’s first inauguration in 2017. This time, organizers expect 50,000 protesters to flock to D.C., although numerous affiliated protests will be held across the U.S. and internationally.
Protesters from outside the city will arrive on a Rally rideshare bus at Union Station at around 9 a.m., while others are expected to use Metrorail.
Those focused on democracy, immigration, anti-militarism and the climate, along with those needing Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations, will meet at Farragut Square. Protesters focused on D.C. issues will meet at McPherson Square.
“We will be holding space for Black and Brown people from everywhere most impacted by a system that doesn’t keep them safe, police brutality, mass incarceration and colonization,” organizers said of the McPherson meetup.
Protesters focusing on bodily autonomy, “gender justice” and LGBTQ issues will gather at Franklin Park.
The three groups are scheduled to start marching at 11 a.m., ending at the Lincoln Memorial for a two-hour rally beginning at 1 p.m.
