A Bronx Zoo peacock flew the coop Wednesday night and attacked a man before it nestled high up in a tree.
The peacock, who New Yorkers have named Raul, has remained perched in the tree since authorities learned of its escape when the man, named Mike, reported he was attacked by the bird, according to the Daily News.
That came after he saw Raul running toward traffic and tried to usher the peacock to safety. Raul responded by ramming his beak against Mike’s leg.
Then up a tree Raul flew.
New York’s Fire Department confirmed that a bystander suffered minor injuries after being attacked by the bird, according to WABC-TV. The person was treated at the scene.
The Bronx Zoo is asking people to leave the peacock alone so it can return to the zoo.
Nearly 100 peafowl walk freely around the zoo’s grounds. The last time a peacock made an escape was in 2011.
