The head, forearms and attached hands of a 16-year-old girl last seen nearly two decades ago were uncovered in a freezer given away by a new homeowner in Mesa County, Colorado.

Amanda Overstreet had not been seen or heard from since April 2005 and was the daughter of the previous owner of the home where the freezer had been.

After buying the home, the new owner decided to give away the freezer, leading to the discovery of the remains in January, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

On Friday, the Mesa County Coroner’s Office released her identity after performing DNA testing. The rest of her body has not been found, and her death is being looked into as a homicide, MCCO said.

No record exists of anyone reporting Ms. Overstreet missing, MCSO said. She had been a Grand Junction, Colorado, and Harris County, Texas, resident, the coroner’s office said in a Facebook post.

The sheriff’s office didn’t name her parents or the new owner of the home.

“The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office would like to emphasize that the home where the Pinyon Avenue homicide investigation centered is now under new ownership, completely unrelated to the previous case. The house was purchased, fully remodeled and sold to the current owner,” MCSO said on Facebook.
