Disc golfers at a public course in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, got an interesting aerial delivery when an osprey was badgered by crows into dropping a shark it had caught.
Jonathan Marlowe and friends were at the 11th hole on the public Splinter City Disc Golf Course when the fish-eating bird of prey dropped the shark right at the 11th hole, Myrtle Beach officials said on social media.
Disc golf, also called frisbee golf, involves throwing discs at a target.
The Myrtle Beach officials said Mr. Marlowe told them two crows chased the osprey into a tree, causing the latter bird to drop its catch.
Mr. Marlowe told Garden & Gun magazine this month that “we couldn’t believe it and kept asking ourselves, ’Did that really just happen?’”
Mr. Marlowe is a local and added that while “it’s not uncommon to see an osprey carrying something,” he was jarred that it was a shark.
The disc golfer identified the fallen shark as a hammerhead, while Myrtle Beach officials called it a bonnethead.
