OpenAI’s Sam Altman on Tuesday denied accusations he sexually assaulted his estranged sister, arguing the claims are motivated by money.

In a suit filed Monday, Annie Altman, Mr. Altman’s younger sister, accused the OpenAI CEO and brother Jack of sexually, verbally and financially abusing her over nine years in the 1990s.

Sam Altman denied the accusations in a Tuesday X post, claiming his sister has suffered from serious mental health issues for years. He also posted a statement from the Altman family expressing concern for Ms. Altman’s well-being and detailed a slew of other accusations from her over the years.

“She has accused members of our family of improperly withholding our father’s 401(k) funds, hacking her Wi-Fi and ’shadowbanning’ her from various websites, including ChatGPT, Twitter and more,” the statement reads. “The worst allegation she has made is that she was sexually abused by Sam as a child (she has also claimed instances of sexual abuse from others). Her claims have evolved drastically over time.”

Mr. Altman went on to imply that the lawsuit is motivated by financial gain. According to him, Ms. Altman’s lawyer plans to use discovery to determine Mr. Altman’s net worth and present it to the jury for consideration on punitive damages.
