An off-duty New York City police officer out with her husband, also an off-duty cop, shot a man who tried to rob them inside a Long Island Rail Road train Wednesday.
Jahmar Stewart, 32, is charged with attempted robbery and assault, according to New York City’s WABC-TV. Law enforcement sources told WABC-TV that the married off-duty cops, neither publicly identified, were boarding the train at Manhattan’s Penn Station around 7 p.m. when Mr. Stewart tried to rob them.
Neither officer was in uniform, according to New York City’s WCBS-TV.
A scuffle started on the train and continued onto the Penn Station platform before the female cop shot Mr. Stewart in the arm and stomach, sources told WCBS-TV.
Her husband was lacerated on the side of his head and on his ear during the tussle, according to the New York Daily News.
Mr. Stewart was arrested and taken to a local hospital in stable condition. He remains hospitalized as of Thursday, according to WABC-TV.
