A New York judge refused Monday to let former President Donald Trump attend Supreme Court arguments on April 25 instead of his hush money trial.

Defense lawyer Todd Blanche said Mr. Trump faces multiple legal cases at once and considers them all to be important.

The justices in Washington will consider whether a former president is immune from criminal charges for official acts he committed while in office.

It is a landmark case pending before the justices. A decision is expected by the end of June.

Judge Juan Merchan was unmoved by the request.

“Arguing before the Supreme Court is a big deal, and I can certainly appreciate why your client would want to be there, but a trial in New York Supreme Court … is also a big deal,” Judge Merchan said. “I will see him here next week.”
