NextImg:Now you see it, now you don’t: Trump-Epstein statue removed from National Mall

A statue of President Trump and Jeffrey Epstein depicting their friendship has gone as quickly as it came from its spot on Washington’s National Mall.

The bronze statue showed the president and the deceased sex offender holding hands and skipping while looking at each other. It appeared on Tuesday morning and disappeared Wednesday morning.

The statue was placed on marble, with a plaque saying, “In Honor of Friendship Month, we celebrate the long-lasting bond between President Donald J. Trump and his ’closest friend’ Jeffrey Epstein,” and two hands making a heart shape.

A permit for the statue said it was allowed to stay in its spot until Sunday, but the Department of the Interior said it was removed because it was not compliant with the permit.

The Washington Times reached out to the National Park Service for comment.

The statue came with its own security detail, according to the permit.

Epstein died in jail in 2019 while awaiting sex trafficking charges. People on both sides of the aisle have called for publicizing who was connected to him.

Lawmakers released a photo recently of a letter Mr. Trump purportedly penned to Epstein in 2003 as part of his 50th birthday book. The letter includes a drawing of a woman, which the president said he never drew and never wrote.

Mr. Trump distanced himself from Epstein, telling reporters in 2019, “I had a falling-out with him. I haven’t spoken to him in 15 years. I was not a fan of his, that I can tell you.”

The president in July said the two had a falling out because Epstein tried to steal young women who worked for his Mar-a-Lago spa in Palm Beach. He said Epstein poached at least one employee from him after being warned not to do it, and Mr. Trump said he kicked the financier off the property.
