New York City police arrested a man Wednesday after authorities said the suspect went on a multi-day stabbing spree that left five people wounded.

Authorities charged Jermain Rigueur, 27, of Queens, with attempted murder, assault and weapons charges in connection with the attacks against the unrelated victims.

All the victims were treated for non-life-threatening stab wounds after they were impaled, according to police.

Police said the suspect stabbed three people Wednesday morning in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood of Queens before he was arrested later that evening.

Mr. Rigeur is accused of stabbing a 74-year-old man in the back before he ran down the street and stabbed a 41-year-old man in the abdomen.

About 30 minutes later, the assailant stabbed a man while getting off a bus. Police said the suspect and the victim argued over a seat before exiting the bus.

Police also linked Mr. Rigeur to the stabbing of a 34-year-old woman Tuesday in Springfield Gardens. The woman was stabbed in her right side while, Chief of Detectives Joe Kenney said, the suspect was muttering nonsense to himself.

Authorities said the first assault occurred on Jan. 8 when the assailant stabbed a 61-year-old man in the lower back in Springfield Gardens.

Det. Kenney told reporters that the suspect “actually laughed in the victim’s face after he stabbed him.”
