A 14-year-old boy in New Jersey was charged with arson in connection with a 52-acre wildfire last month near Evesham Township, New Jersey.
The boy, who has not been publicly named by law enforcement, was charged with aggravated second-degree arson and second-degree causing or risking widespread injury and damage, the Evesham Township Police Department said.
A fire broke out in the woods near the town’s border with Berlin Township the afternoon of Oct. 30. No structures were damaged, police said.
The Marlton, New Jersey, teen was arrested on Nov. 7 after an investigation. Police did not say why they think he started the fire.
Law enforcement is also looking into whether the fire is connected to a Nov. 7 fire in the same area, which consumed 375 acres but did not damage any structures.
Both fires were contained in the course of days, Evesham police said, and they did not mention any injuries being suffered as a result of either fire.
Dry weather has led to forest fires elsewhere in New Jersey and New York, which with Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, are under fire weather warnings.
