A new wildfire broke out in Los Angeles County, California, Wednesday, called the Hughes fire that has already grown to more than 5,000 acres in size.
The blaze broke out near the Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, and evacuations have been ordered in Castaic, Martins, and Naylor Place, California, as well as in surrounding areas.
Evacuation warnings have been issued to areas north, east and south of the mandatory evacuation zone per the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) incident map.
About 19,000 residents live in the mandatory evacuation zones and another 16,000 live in areas under an evacuation warning, according to KABC-TV.
The fire started sometime before 11 a.m. local time, according to Angeles National Forest officials. The state recreation area is next to the forest.
By 1:11 p.m. local time, the Hughes fire had spread to about 5,054 acres.
Cal Fire has not yet said how many structures could be impacted or if anyone has been injured or killed by the Hughes fire.
Elsewhere in Los Angeles County, the Eaton and Palisades fires that began on Jan. 7 were 91% and 68% contained, respectively, as of Wednesday afternoon. They have killed at least 28 people and destroyed more than 14,000 buildings, according to The Associated Press.
