MSNBC’s headquarters in Manhattan this week experienced bed-bug sightings that led to a swift evacuation of staff as the network prepared for its Super Tuesday coverage.

A memo reviewed by The New York Post revealed on Sunday that an “unidentified insect” prompted concern in Studio 3A, which recently underwent renovations and serves as the production site for election specials and “The Rachel Maddow Show.”

Located within the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the studio swiftly became the focal point of remediation efforts.

“They are scrambling,” an NBC source told The Post. “They’ve already been borrowing an unused local studio for some shows in recent weeks. So studio space is tight.”

Out of heightened caution, additional facilities on the third floor were temporarily closed. The decision was made to ensure the safety and comfort of personnel and guests alike, according to internal communications.

To address the infestation, professional exterminators were contacted to thoroughly treat the affected studio, including surrounding green rooms and the control room. Ensuring a comprehensive approach to the problem, an environmental K-9 detection team was scheduled to assess the success of the extermination effort and conduct further inspections throughout the third-floor newsrooms.

In a follow-up to the day’s disturbances, a network insider indicated that the communication about the situation was part of a broader notification process. They assured that “the studio reopened an hour or so after the memo went out and the inspection was complete.”
