NextImg:Montana county says DHS can use its expo center to hold illegal immigrants

Yellowstone County in Montana let the federal government know it can use the county’s expo center to hold illegal immigrants for deportation.

The county, in a letter to Montana’s members of Congress, said its MetraPark facility offers more than 100,000 square feet of space in its expo center and a separate pavilion that could be used to hold migrants. Both have bathroom facilities, and a separate arena has a large commercial kitchen that could be used.

“We want to help,” County Commission Chair Mark Morse said in the letter.

Rep. Ryan Zinke, Montana Republican, said the feds should jump on the offer.

“Round ‘em up! Send ‘em home,” he said. “Using the MetraPark is a creative, locally-driven solution for Montana to help end the border crisis that has reached into every community across the country. Well done, Yellowstone County Commission. You’re serving the people who elected you and the American people at large.”

The local offer stands in contrast to sanctuary cities, which are plotting ways to thwart President Trump’s mass deportation plans.

Mr. Morse said Yellowstone County has suffered from the border chaos and drug and human trafficking and it makes sense to help the feds out.

He also pointed out that federal taxpayers helped fund improvements at the MetraPark facility through pandemic recovery money.

Yellowstone County is home to Montana’s most populous city, Billings, and is about a 260-mile drive from the Canadian border.
