A Missouri man has claimed his half of the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot won on a ticket drawn on Sept. 6.
The prize is the largest ever won by a Missouri Lottery player, officials said in a release. The officials did not name their state’s winner, who said in the release that he is a “homebody” and that he plans to “just do ‘me’ for a year.”
The man also said that the prize will let his wife reduce her workload, joking that “she’s going to drag me out of town now.”
The Missouri winner took the lump-sum option, which came out to $410.3 million before state and federal taxes. He also had a choice of an annuitized prize of $893.5 million before taxes.
The St. Louis QuikTrip that sold him the winning ticket also benefitted from his good fortune, receiving a $50,000 bonus for selling the ticket, Missouri Lottery officials said.
The winning numbers for the $1.787 billion prize, the second-largest in Powerball history, were white balls 11, 23, 44, 61, 62 and red ball 17. The prize was split by the Missouri winner and a Texas winner who has not yet come forward.
The Texas winner has until March 5, 2027 — 180 days after their winning ticket was drawn — to come forward and claim their prize, according to Texas Lottery rules.
