Federal prosecutors accused a Mississippi police officer of forcing a prisoner to lick his own urine off the floor of his cell, according to court documents unsealed Wednesday.
The federal documents charge former Pearl Police Department Officer Michael Christian Green with one federal count of deprivation of rights under color of law.
Pearl City officials said Mr. Green was fired days after the Christmas season incident took place.
Police originally arrested the prisoner, who has been identified only by his initials B.E., on Dec. 23 for his role in a family disturbance at a Sam’s Club, according to the documents.
The suspect was taken to a holding cell in the police station, where he tried to get Officer Green’s attention so he could use the bathroom. But prosecutors said after “a period of time” with no response, the prisoner had to urinate in a corner of the cell.
Officer Green went to get the man sometime later for his booking, which is when multiple officers noticed someone had urinated in the cell.
According to the filing, Officer Green told the prisoner, “Let me tell you somethin’. You see this phone? I will beat your f—ing a— with it. You’re fixin’ to go in there and you’re gonna lick that p—- up. Do you understand me?”
Officer Green repeatedly ordered the prisoner to “lick up” and “suck up” his urine, prosecutors said and then stood in the doorway of the holding cell.
The prisoner constantly gagged while performing the task, and court documents said Officer Green removed his police vest and filmed the man. Jailhouse security cameras also captured the incident.
Prosecutors said Officer Green eventually let the man out, where he “repeatedly vomited” in a nearby garbage can.
Officer Green is scheduled to have his first court hearing Thursday. He faces up to a year in prison if convicted.
