NextImg:(Mis)Match: Online date goes bad when Florida man is beaten, robbed, thrown over bridge

Police in western Florida said Tuesday that a man’s recent online date turned into a robbery in which the woman and an accomplice stole his car, cut his throat and threw him over a bridge.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested Natalie Fonseca, 25, and Nafis Reynolds, 31, and charged them with attempted murder, armed carjacking, armed robbery and kidnapping in the Oct. 6 incident.

Authorities said the victim, who wasn’t identified, met Ms. Fonseca over social media and agreed to have a dinner date with her at her home. When he arrived, Ms. Fonseca introduced him to Mr. Reynolds, who she said was her “uncle.”

Police said the trio eventually took a ride over to Mr. Reynolds’ home for a cookout before leaving again, this time with Ms. Fonseca driving the car, according to an arrest report obtained by Pensacola ABC affiliate WEAR-TV.

“During the ride, Fonseca and Nafis both hit the victim several times and told him he was going to die,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook. “They robbed him of his shoes, his phone, his money, and his car. They then took turns cutting his throat before throwing him over the bridge rail and into Escambia River.”

Police said the suspects drove off in the stolen car, which was later found to be set ablaze on the side of a road.

The arrest report said the victim survived the attack and the fall from the bridge and swam to shore. He collapsed when he reached land, and was discovered by a boater the following morning.

Deputies said they used a combination of surveillance footage and information from a previous domestic disturbance to track down and arrest the suspects, who police said were dating each other.
