Popular mug and cup maker Stanley is recalling 2.6 million of its travel mugs because they’re a burn hazard.

Stanley has received 91 reports worldwide and 16 from the U.S. of lids detaching as people were drinking. Of those, 38 have suffered burns, including two Americans, and 11 people have required medical attention, according to the recall notice posted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission Thursday.

The CPSC did not specify whether either of the injured Americans were among those who required medical attention.

The lids are coming off because heat can warp and shrink the threads on the lids, the CPSC said.

The recall affects various sizes of Stanley’s Switchback and Trigger Action mugs sold between June 2016 and December 2024.

Stanley said customers should stop using the mugs and go to this website to apply for a replacement lid.
