NEWS AND OPINION:

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Pence has a new book arriving. Let’s look at a little past history. Simon & Schuster published a book titled “So Help Me God” by Mr. Pence on Nov. 15, 2022.

“The book recounts his journey from his youth in Columbus, Ind., to the vice presidency. It is the inside story of the Trump administration by its second-highest ranking official and of a profound faith that has guided Pence throughout his life,” the publisher said in a news release at the time.

The former vice president has more to share, however.

His new, forthcoming book is titled “Go Home for Dinner: Advice on How Faith Makes a Family and Family Makes a Life,” and will be released Nov. 14 — almost a year to the day since his last offering.

“Pence reveals how he learned to trust God, make difficult choices, and take leaps of faith, all with an eye to what his family needed. He also brings in examples of other friends and colleagues, to demonstrate how these principles look in the lives of other families. The Pence family is far from perfect, but the values portrayed in this book have helped them remain together—and thrive—through their extraordinary journey in public service,” the publisher said in advance notes for the book.

Mr. Pence wrote the book in collaboration with his daughter, Charlotte Pence Bond, the publisher says.

She is also the author of “Where You Go: Life Lessons from my Father,” and is a reporter for the Daily Wire.

“I hope these lessons and stories from our family encourage you to follow your dreams while keeping your family close. Strong families are the very heartbeat of America. I believe we can heal our country by putting faith and family first — and it all starts when you go home for dinner,” Mr. Pence said in a written statement.

THE TOP FIVE

Meanwhile, do you wonder what political books are currently leading the pack? Here are the top five titles from the “history and political science” category of Publisher’s Weekly, a leading industry source, as of Tuesday. All the books were published within the last three months.

In first place is “Dark Future: Uncovering the Great Reset’s Terrifying Next Phase” by media commentator Glenn Beck (Forefront Books). In second place: “Unbroken Bonds of Battle: A Modern Warriors Book of Heroism, Patriotism, and Friendship” by Johnny Joey Jones (Broadside Books).

In third place is “The King of Late Night” by Greg Gutfeld (Threshold Editions), followed by “You Will Own Nothing: Your War with a New Financial World Order and How to Fight Back” by Carol Roth (Broadside Books), and “America’s Cultural Revolution: How the Radical Left Conquered Everything” by Christopher F. Rufo (also Broadside Books).

THE DEBATES CONTINUE

The spectacular Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum will be home to the next Republican presidential debate on Sept. 27 — and the serious logistical preparations are underway.

The organizers have now fired up the credentialing process for interested news organizations, and shared a few choice details with Inside the Beltway.

The big event will include a designated filing center for eager reporters — there will also be a “spin room” and an official “Radio/Podcast Row” for the broadcast folks.

Happily for all, the library’s Reagan Bar and Bistro will be open for the hungry and thirsty in the crowd. The fare includes, by the way, the official Reagan BBQ Ranch Burger and the Presidential Meatloaf Sandwich, according to a menu featured at the library’s website.

NOT ON THE ITINERARY

The ever-watchful Republican Party reminds one and all that President Biden vowed over six months ago to visit East Palestine, Ohio — the site of a massive railroad disaster on Feb. 3, involving 53 train cars and a toxic chemical spill.

He still hasn’t gone.

“Over the weekend, he said it was because he hasn’t had the chance. That’s a lie,” said Tommy Pigott, director of strategic communications for the Republican National Committee.

“Biden has had time for at least 69 domestic and international trips since February 3. That includes dozens and dozens of vacation days – almost 20 in August alone,” Mr. Pigott said in a written statement shared with Inside the Beltway.

“Here’s the point: Joe Biden is showing where his warped priorities lie, and they are not with the American people,” Mr. Pigott noted.

Sen. Sherrod Brown has also stepped up to request some help for the devastated community in an Aug. 7 letter to the White House.

“The people of East Palestine deserve to know what their federal government is doing to fight for them,” the Ohio Democrat said.

MEANWHILE IN SPACE

Tuesday marked the 46th anniversary of Voyager 1, which launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Sept. 5, 1977, and is now almost 15 billion miles away — the farthest human-made object from Earth, according to NASA.

“Voyager 1 initially launched on a mission to explore the outer planets. After flying by Jupiter and Saturn in 1979 and 1980, the spacecraft took a sharp turn and started heading straight out of the solar system,” Space.com noted in a brief mention of the event published Tuesday.

“Voyager 1 became the first spacecraft to reach interstellar space in 2012, although scientists are still debating about exactly where that boundary lies,” the site said.

“The spacecraft’s next big encounter will take place in about 40,000 years, when it will fly by another star system. And just in case it comes across any intelligent life out in the universe, it’s carrying a golden record with sights, sounds and greetings from planet Earth,” it noted.
