A Metro train derailment near the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport station Friday morning did not injure any passengers but did cause traffic to stop between the airport station and Potomac Yard.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said there were 50 passengers onboard the derailed train at the time of the incident, and they were subsequently transferred to other trains by shuttle.
WMATA officials have not yet specified what caused the derailment, exactly when the train derailed, what type of train derailed, or whether the derailment occurred at the front or the rear of the train.
Metrorail officials first noted reports of a disabled train on X at 11:14 a.m., confirming that it was a derailed train at 11:45 a.m.
The two stations are shared by the Blue and Yellow lines. Shuttle service was initially launched to help customers get around the blockage between the stations. WMATA officials said on X that single tracking between the stations had resumed at 12:49 p.m.
Trains on the Blue and Yellow lines will run every 24 minutes, with additional Blue line trains running every 12 minutes between Largo and Arlington Cemetery to relieve congestion, WMATA said.
