Police in Seattle charged a man Tuesday with wounding one person and opening fire at another during a drugged-out shooting spree on Interstate 5.
Authorities said Marco Ramos Valdez, 28, was charged with first-degree assault in connection with two Dec. 6 shootings that left one driver with a gunshot wound to the neck and another incident in which bullets struck a victim’s car.
Mr. Valdez is accused of carrying out both shootings between 9:20 and 9:40 p.m.
Police said the suspect shot the first victim in the neck while driving south on I-5. The male victim, who was in the car with his pregnant wife, was taken to the hospital after he was injured. The victim’s wife wasn’t harmed.
About 20 minutes later, SPD said, the second victim witnessed Mr. Valdez “driving all over the roadway” prior to shooting the victim’s car. The male driver wasn’t injured in that incident.
A gun and spent shell casings were recovered inside Mr. Valdez’s vehicle at the time of his arrest.
Police said they believe Mr. Valdez is a person of interest in six total shootings that occurred around that same time frame.
Court documents show that Mr. Valdez told police he was on methamphetamines when the shootings took place.
The suspect told cops that he was hearing voices that told him the vehicles around him were dangerous, according to court documents.
Mr. Valdez is being held on a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 21.
