Police in Southern Florida said they opened an investigation Sunday after a group of masked, bike-riding teens yelled “death to the Jews” to people leaving a synagogue in Coral Springs.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said the incident took place around 12:15 p.m. Saturday as congregants were departing Congregation Kol Tikvah.
Authorities said five juveniles on bikes and wearing ski masks yelled the antisemitic slurs at the crowd.
Deputies arrived shortly afterward but were unable to find the suspects.
Andrew Rader, president of the Congregation Kol Tikvah, told The Miami Herald that the teens never entered the temple’s property. He also said the interaction was brief.
“It was very unnerving to myself, obviously to those congregants, who were mostly seniors, and it was a cowardly act,” Mr. Rader told the newspaper. “We will find out who this was and we will pursue this.”
The Anti-Defamation League said last week that antisemitic incidents of harassment, vandalism and assault have increased nearly 390% following Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
