Maryland basketball’s favorite son is headed to the NBA.

Center Derik Queen was selected 13th by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the NBA draft on Wednesday night, though they traded his draft rights to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Queen shook hands with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver wearing a simple black suit with “I’m from Baltimore” stitched into it.

The phrase went viral when Queen used it after draining a buzzer-beater in the NCAA tournament to send the Terrapins to the Sweet Sixteen.

The 20-year-old told ESPN Radio that he has a clear goal for his NBA career.

“To check off all the question marks they have about me,” he said.

Queen averaged 16.5 points and nine rebounds per game in his final season in Maryland.

Another D.C. area product joined Queen in the NBA two picks later. The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder selected Georgetown center Thomas Sorber with the 15th pick in the draft.

The 20-year-old Sorber trailed only Queen in rebounds by a freshman last season with 8.5 rebounds per game. He posted 14.5 points per game during his lone season with the Hoyas.
