NextImg:Manhunt for Brooklyn gunman ends with suspect shot by police during knife charge

New York City police said the gunman wanted for killing a man and his stepson in Brooklyn last weekend was shot by officers Wednesday after the suspect charged at officers with a knife.

NYPD said suspected shooter Jason Pass, 47, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The New York Post reported that the police had a positive hit on his license plate and pulled over Mr. Pass in the Bath Beach neighborhood around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

That’s when the suspect grabbed a knife and ran right at officers, prompting them to shoot the man.

Mr. Pass had been on the run since he was accused of gunning down Bladimy Mathurin, 47, and his 27-year-old stepson Chinwai Mode late Sunday in East Flatbush.

Mr. Mathurin’s wife, Marie Delille, told WABC-TV that her downstairs neighbor became upset about the noise coming from the family’s apartment and was banging on his ceiling.

Police on Tuesday said Mr. Pass made at least six calls to the city’s 311 nonemergency line to complain about noise from his upstairs neighbors since March 2022.

Sunday night, Mr. Mathurin and the suspect got into a heated argument, which was caught by the apartment complex’s surveillance cameras.

The video shows Mr. Mathurin getting in the face of a shorter, light-skinned man who was standing by the apartment complex’s stairwell.

Mr. Mathurin appears to be armed with a pair of scissors and sticks them in the face of the suspect during the argument.

A woman intervenes and pulls Mr. Mathurin away from the suspect. He shrugs her off and brings his attention back to the suspect, who pulls out a gun and aims it at the victim.

The suspect opens fire on Mr. Mathurin as he tries to flee into his apartment. Mr. Mode tries to run past the shooter toward the stairwell until the gunman fires multiple shots at him.

The suspect then walks over to Mr. Mathurin, who is lying face down outside his apartment door, and fires a final shot into the victim.

Police said the shooter fired nine shots in total.

“My son is a good boy … he’s not violent,” Ms. Delille told WABC. “My husband has no gun, no weapon; why would you bring your gun to shoot my family? Why would you bring a gun to tear my family apart?”
