NextImg:Manchin isn’t endorsing anyone for president yet

Sen. Joe Manchin III said he’s not endorsing anyone “right now” because he wants to see what happens while he works to get the country back to more moderate politics.

“We’re going to see what all happens. We still got plenty of time here,” Mr. Manchin said on CNN’s “The Source” Monday. “I’m going to do everything I can, to help move them back to the middle, and show them where the strength of this country lies, where the voting bloc of the country lies.”

His remarks come after he announced Friday that he would not be running for president as a third-party candidate. The West Virginia Democrat announced in November that he would not be seeking reelection for his Senate seat.

When asked whether voters should read into Mr. Manchin not endorsing President Biden, he said he’s just “trying to do everything I can to make sure that we have a pathway forward, where the center of this country is going to be represented.”

“That’s where the decisions, that’s where people live their lives. That’s the type of government they want. They don’t want the extremes,” he said.

He said he still believes “there’s enough good Republicans and Democrats that want this centrist type of approach to governing.”

The Democratic lawmaker said “we’ll just have to see what happens” between now and the November election. He talked about independent candidates and the possibility of a third-party candidate for the No Labels group.
