Oregon police said they nabbed a fugitive by the name of Loony Toon after the suspect was in no joking mood when he allegedly opened fire on officers and spent three days on the run.
Milwaukie police said its cops arrested Loony John Franklin Kolb Toon, 42, Monday night after surrounding a residence in Sandy with SWAT members, crisis negotiators and U.S. marshals.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Toon faces charges of attempted murder, attempted assault and fleeing police in connection with a gunfire-laden car chase on Friday.
Authorities said officers pulled Toon over that morning for a traffic violation and soon discovered he had an active felony warrant for his arrest.
The initiating cop called for backup, police said, and the tandem laid spike strips around Toon’s vehicle to prevent him from speeding off.
As officers announced that Toon was going to be arrested, police said the suspect reversed into a squad car behind him and raced away.
Authorities said Toon waved a pistol out of his window and fired multiple shots toward the pursuing officers during the high-speed chase. No cops or vehicles were hit by the wanton gunfire.
Police said Toon made his way to Portland and ditched his car, which was riding on its rims at that point.
The suspect fled the scene and wasn’t captured until Monday evening.
