Alexandria police said Monday that a gunman killed an acquaintance before mortally wounding himself in a deadly gym fight over the weekend.  

Authorities said the two men killed Saturday afternoon at a Onelife Fitness location just inside the Capital Beltway were victim Joshua Wilcox, 29, of Maryland, and gunman Charles Hewitt, 30, of the District.

According to police, the two men knew each other but they released no word Monday or how they knew each other or what had led up to Mr. Hewitt shooting Mr. Wilcox and then himself.

Officers arrived to the business at 305 Hooffs Run Drive around 4 p.m. Saturday and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were both rushed to the hospital in life-threatening condition.

Mr. Wilcox died from injuries shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police said, while Mr. Hewitt died from his injuries around 11:30 p.m.
