A District of Columbia man arrested this week faces multiple charges of mail theft and the armed robbery of a postal worker.

Ibrahim Emmanuel De La Cruz, 25, is alleged to have stolen mail from mailboxes in D.C.’s Northwest area; Arlington, Virginia; and Bowie, Maryland, in February and March, according to court documents.

Some of the purported thefts involved the use of an arrow key, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said in a release Wednesday.

Mr. De La Cruz is also accused of a pair of crimes on Aug. 10: the armed robbery of arrow keys from a postal worker and theft of mail in the 700 block of Parkside Place NE.

Mr. De La Cruz was arrested Wednesday, according to his arrest warrant, and has been charged with two counts of attempted mail theft or receipt of stolen mail, three counts of mail theft or receipt of stolen mail and one count of armed robbery of mail, money or other U.S. property.

Authorities also claimed that Mr. De La Cruz used personal information taken from stolen mail to access or open bank accounts and credit cards in other people’s names, plus used money stolen from bank accounts to pay for his rent, utilities, cellphone bills and tuition.
