A man was arrested after a backpack was thrown over the fence of the Israeli Embassy in Northwest, according to a law enforcement source.

The law enforcement official told The Washington Times that the black bag was investigated and cleared by explosives teams. No injuries or damage were reported to the property.

The suspect, who was described as a 35-year-old Black man, was arrested for unlawful entry around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the official.

The official said the man appeared to suffer from mental health issues. He was taken into custody by uniformed Secret Service officers.

Embassy spokeswoman Tal Naim said earlier that a “security event” took place at the diplomatic building after a “suspicious object” was tossed into the yard.

“Embassy staff and the building are unharmed,” Ms. Naim said on X. “The incident is being handled by local police and the Embassy’s security team.”

Protesters have frequently demonstrated outside the embassy and at other Israeli and Jewish facilities across the world since the October start of the war that began when the Islamist terror terror group Hamas killed more than 1,200 Israeli civilians.

In February, an active-duty U.S. airman self-immolated and died in front of the embassy to protest Israel’s ongoing counteroffensives in Gaza.

The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry says nearly 41,000 people have been killed since the Jewish state’s response began.
