The D.C. area’s first major snowstorm of the year is causing commuter rails to close down and airlines to delay or cancel flights at major area airports.

Both the Virginia Railway Express and Maryland Area Regional Commuter rail said they will cancel all trips Monday in light of the weather and federal government’s closure.

Amtrak has severely limited its trips as well, with multiple trains that pass through the District on their way to Boston, New York City, Richmond, Roanoke and Charlotte, North Carolina, all being canceled in light of the snow.

Arrivals and departures at major airports in the region are deferring to airlines on whether or not the flights will take off. Travelers are encouraged to check their flight status before heading out the door.

At a glance, multiple flights at Baltimore-Washington International-Thurgood Marshall Airport in Maryland, as well as Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia, have been delayed or canceled. Most affected flights are either departing for, or arriving from, Midwestern cities that are also in the path of Winter Storm Blair.

The D.C. area’s Metrorail service is operating as normal Monday, but several bus lines have either been modified or canceled for the day due to dicey conditions on the roads.
