Louisiana State University wide receiver Kyren Lacy is wanted by Louisiana State Police on charges of negligent homicide. He is accused of a hit-and-run incident last month.
On Dec. 17, police alleged in a Facebook post Friday, Mr. Lacy was going southbound on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish in a 2023 Dodge Charger when he illegally crossed the center line into the northbound lanes in order to pass other cars.
This caused a northbound pickup truck to abruptly brake and swerve right. Behind the pickup truck, a 2017 Kia Cadenza swerved left to avoid Mr. Lacy’s Charger, crossing the centerline and hitting a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento. The front seat passenger of the Sorento, Herman Hall, 78, was injured and died at a hospital later that day.
LSP allege that Mr. Lacy continued driving southbound on Louisiana Highway 20 without stopping to call for help, report his involvement in the crash or help others at the scene. The drivers of the two Kias were moderately injured and hospitalized following the crash.
Mr. Lacy is charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle. A warrant has been put out for his arrest and LSP said they had contacted his legal representatives to ask when Mr. Lacy would turn himself in.
Rocky Arceneaux, CEO of Alliance Sports Management and agent for Mr. Lacy, wrote on X that Mr. Lacy is cooperating fully with the authorities.
“We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation. … To anyone impacted, directly or indirectly, we want to assure that this matter is being taken very seriously, and we are committed to resolving it responsibly. Out of respect for the investigation and everyone involved, we will not be making further comments at this time,” Mr. Arceneaux added.
Mr. Lacy declared for the NFL draft on Dec. 19, just two days after the crash according to ESPN.
