NextImg:Larry Hogan rakes in $3 million in first two months of his Maryland Senate campaign

Republican Larry Hogan raised more than $3.1 million since launching his candidacy for an open Senate seat in Maryland on Feb. 9, he revealed Wednesday.

The fundraising haul amounted to the most raised by a Senate candidate in any quarter in state history, according to Mr. Hogan’s campaign.

“In a race where we are likely to face either the billionaire trying to buy the election or the candidate of the Democratic machine, there is no doubt we are the financial underdog too,” Mr. Hogan said in a statement.

The former Maryland governor’s bid for the deep-blue seat, currently held by retiring Sen. Ben Cardin, is pivotal in Republicans’ quest to retake the Senate.

The leading candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat are Rep. David Trone and Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks.

Mr. Trone, a wealthy businessman who founded the Total Wine & More chain, has not released first-quarter numbers that account for January through March. He’s self-funding his campaign and spent more than $23 million as of the end of 2023.

Ms. Alsobrooks raised $2.1 million in the first quarter.
