NextImg:King of Jordan says he’ll take sick kids from Gaza

Jordan’s King Abdullah II said he is open to taking sick children from Gaza into Jordan, but the rest needs to be discussed.

“We’re going to have some interesting discussions today,” King Abdullah said while in the Oval Office with President Trump Tuesday. “I think one of the things we can do right away is take 2,000 children that are either cancer children or in very ill state to Jordan as quickly as possible.”

He said the next move after that would be to wait and see what plan Egypt presents in response to Mr. Trump’s calls for the two countries to take in refugees from Gaza.

Mr. Trump called it a “beautiful gesture.”

He called the king’s plan “music to my ears.”

“We’ll be working on the rest,” he said, adding that “great progress” will be seen from Egypt and Jordan.

“It’s not a complex thing to do,” Mr. Trump said. “And with the United States being in control of that piece of land, fairly large piece of land, you’re going to have stability in the Middle East for the first time and the Palestinians, or the people that live now in Gaza will be living beautifully in another location. They’re going to be living safely, they’re not going to be killed, murdered and having to leave every 10 years.”

He noted that the U.S. is not going to “buy anything, we’re going to have it and we’re going to keep it and we’re going to make sure there’s peace.”

Mr. Trump said an “economic development at a very large scale,” including hotels, office buildings, housing and other infrastructure, will be built in Gaza.
