The United Auto Workers have reached a deal with Ford over a local contract at its Louisville, Kentucky, truck plant, the union announced Wednesday.

The UAW said the new agreement addresses many of the demands of the Kentucky employees and will avert a strike this week.

“Workers at Ford’s most profitable plant were set to walk off the job over local issues related to skilled trades, health & safety, and ergonomics,” the union said in a statement. “The tentative deal addresses these and other core issues of concern to [Kentucky Truck Plant] autoworkers.”

This week’s deal is separate from the UAW’s standing contracts with Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, which they secured late last year. The details of the new Ford deal have not been made available.

Thousands of UAW members at the facility were preparing to strike Friday. The deal avoids that strike and a shutdown of Ford’s most profitable facility, which is responsible for nearly $25 billion in yearly revenue.
