NextImg:Kamala Harris adds policy positions to campaign website

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign updated its website Monday to add policy positions eight weeks after she became the Democratic presidential nominee and one day before she debates former President Donald Trump.

The page, titled “A New Way Forward,” outlines 19 policy positions for Ms. Harris, including immigration, crime, the economy and supporting America’s service members.

After each position, the Harris campaign contrasts the vice president’s outline with policies outlined in Project 2025, a set of conservative policy proposals by the Heritage Foundation.

Mr. Trump has sought to distance himself from Project 2025, even though many of his closest policy advisers were involved in drafting the 900-page book. Project 2025 was backed by a coalition of conservative groups but was never officially endorsed by the Trump campaign. Mr. Trump said in July that the Project 2025 “goes way too far.”

Most of the policies spelled out on the Harris website have already been announced by her campaign and are vague.

For example, the section on the economy says Ms. Harris is committed to ensuring no one earning less than $400,000 will pay more in taxes, but it doesn’t explain how, given that she also proposes significantly increasing government spending on social projects. It simply says she will raise taxes on corporations and the wealthiest Americans.

Ms. Harris also pledges to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, require universal background checks and support red flag laws.

The campaign website also says Ms. Harris will support Supreme Court reforms, including requiring justices to comply with ethics and rules and imposing term limits.

In the last section, Ms. Harris pledges to “keep America safe, secure, and prosperous” by strengthening our allies, standing up to dictators and supporting service members.

Mr. Trump’s campaign website details 20 policy positions, ranging from bolstering border security to lowering inflation.
